Why Face to Face? That was a question recently asked of me. Just why do we call our magazine Face to Face?
There are a number of reasons, just as there are a number ways in which the phrase face to face can be applied. When we are in someone’s presence – in direct contact with them – we talk about being face to face with them. A relationship is implied. Face to Face magazine endeavours to bring a positive and practical Christian perspective on everyday issues facing you and me. Its content is mainly relational.
But there is more. In John 1:1,2 we read about God’s existence before creation; “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.” The word with means a close, face to face encounter or intimate contact with someone else. So a more accurate rendering of John 1:1 could be “In the beginning was the Word (Jesus), and the Word (Jesus) was face to face with God.” With clearly reveals the intimacy and close relationship that exists between the members of the Godhead. I have even read that the word presents us with a picture of the Father and Jesus in a relationship “so close and intimate that the Father can almost feel the Son’s breath on his face”!
But there is still more. Because of his unconditional love for us and his determination to give us salvation and life with him, God himself stepped out of eternity and into time and came to us in the simplest and most easily comprehensible way – as one of us, in person, face to face. Then when Jesus ascended back to his Father he connected and united himself with us (John 12:32; 14:20) so he could establish a personal relationship with us and include us in the same perfect face to face relationship that he has with his Father and the Holy Spirit. Do you see what this means? We now partake of the divine life and are at this very moment face to face with God!
This good news should make us want to leap for joy! And this (and more) is the wonderful message we want to share with you through life-changing and challenging articles. Enjoy - and be transformed!
The story goes that the devil was once crossing the Libyan desert when he came upon an area where some of his demons were tormenting a holy hermit.
God is so high you can’t get over Him; So wide you can’t get around Him; So low you can’t get under Him.
